When should I change my
car's HEPA filter?
Robin's Question: "How
often do you have to change your HEPA filter on cars
that drive in Arizona?"
I
have to first congratulate you on even knowing that
your car has a HEPA filter… most people don't even
know what one is! HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate
Air filter, and they are used in many modern cars in
the climate control's intake system to filter out dust,
pollen, and pollutants, which can enter the passenger
compartment. Some manufacturers don't even list a replacement
interval for them in the owners manual. My recommendation
would be to replace yours every 12 months under normal
driving conditions in Arizona. More often if you drive
dirt roads. If you notice a reduced volume of airflow
coming from your cars air conditioner, a plugged up
HEPA filter is the most likely cause. Have your mechanic
check and replace it as needed.
