Taking its cue from Kia and Hyundai, Suzuki takes aim at the big boys by offering a vehicle similar to their flagships, but at a lower price and with more standard features. Targeting the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry is the Verona.
Almost identical in size to both of these best-selling family sedans and utterly unremarkable in design, Verona hopes to distinguish itself with bells and whistles that often come at a higher cost in the more popular brands. Available in three trim levels (S, LX and EX), even the base model comes well-equipped with power accessories, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control and a standard inline six-cylinder engine.
Inside, particularly in the top-of-the-line EX, you'll find high-class touches like wood and leather accents that contradict the price tag. The exception is the white-faced gauges, which bring the Verona back down to economy level. Driving the Verona is pleasurable, but again unremarkable.
The bottom line? At this price, the Verona is worth a look. You won't find many mid-size economy sedans with this many features, plus a classy fit and finish. If it's looks you're going for, the Verona won't turn your neighbors' heads - unless they find out how little it costs. would get easier. The Acura RL is a winner.
