Using your credit card for online purchases can
sometimes be unnerving. You may ask, “Is my card
number secure?” Credit card providers are constantly
looking for ways to keep your card safe and limit
fraudulent online activity. One new protection
is ShopSafe®.
The ShopSafe feature is a benefit of the AAA credit
card that allows you to create a temporary 16-digit
credit card number each time you make an online
transaction. This temporary number links directly
back to your real AAA credit card account, but
keeps your account number safe from potential fraudulent
transactions. The merchant never knows it’s not
your credit card account number. The ShopSafe numbers
are accepted anywhere you can use your credit card.
Here’s how it works: Shop online as you normally
do. When you are ready to make your purchase and
enter your credit card information, just sign in
to your aaanetaccess online banking account to
access the ShopSafe feature. You then enter the
spending limit you want for the transaction (don’t
forget to include all applicable taxes and shipping
and handling charges), and the expiration date
(the expiration date can be for one transaction
or recurring transactions up to 12 months). The
ShopSafe feature will then generate a temporary
16-digit account number, which you can use to complete
your transaction. For those sites that require
a 3-digit security code, ShopSafe will generate
that code as well.
So add a little peace of mind and security the
next time you shop online. If you have a AAA credit
card, simply sign in to your aaanetaccess online
banking account and choose “Use ShopSafe” from
the account activity screen.
