New Teen Driving Laws in Effect
Beginning July 1, the Teenage Driver Safety Act will go into effect, marking
additional regulations for new teen drivers. AAA Arizona spearheaded the lobbying
efforts for this legislation which:
- Allows a permit to be issued to teens aged 15
years and six months old.
- Requires teens who hold an instruction permit
to be accompanied by a licensed driver who is at
least 21 years old.
- Restricts driving from midnight to 5 a.m. for
the first 6 months that a 16- or 17-year-old holds
his or her license.
- Limits the number of non-family passengers that
can be in a vehicle driven by a 16- or 17-year-old
driver.
AAA Arizona has developed resources to assist teen
drivers and their parents in preparing for this new
legislation. Call 602-650-2716 or visit www.teensatthewheel.com for
