How Arizonan Are You?
This quiz is for those of you who have lived in Arizona long enough to call yourselves natives. But even if you are a recent arrival, take the test and see how much you know about the place you call home.

  1. Founded in 1952, this is the home of one of the oldest theatrical companies in Arizona. The theatre was recently moved from downtown Scottsdale to a new facility at McDowell Village. What is the name of this theater?
  2. She was known as the Venezuelan Volcano for her roles in Captive Wild Woman, Jungle Woman, and Tarzan and the Leopard Woman. After marrying the owner of a Phoenix car dealership, she used her celebrity to raise funds for cultural groups and charities. She did local TV commercials and had a short-lived stint on late-night TV.
  3. This is the name given to the area in the most northern part of Arizona. It is a huge expanse of land from the northern rim of the Grand Canyon to the Utah border. Fredonia is located here.
  4. This is the famous rock formation on Camelback’s northwest side.
  5. This Arizonian was a lawyer, politician, and banker. He was convicted of fraud for his involvement in the savings and loan scandal in 1989.
  6. This department store was based in Phoenix and founded by the grandfather of a U.S. Senator who was a presidential candidate in 1964.
  7. In 1971, this author moved to Paradise Valley. She wrote a column called “At Wit’s End.” She was originally paid $3 per column. She was the author of more than a dozen books.
  8. He sits at the entrance to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The 90,000-pound lion was cast in 1600 individual pieces of half-inch-thick bronze plate, welded together, and supported by a structural steel internal armature. The bronze statue was fabricated by Snell Johnson of ART Enterprises in Scottsdale.
  9. This toy was invented in 1916 by John Lloyd Wright, son of architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
  10. This animal eats two to three times its body weight each day. It can hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping its wings 15 to 80 times per second. It is very small and can be seen getting nectar from flowers.
