The Other Earp
He didn't get as much publicity as his more famous siblings, but Warren Earp was also involved in a gunfight. Unlike his brothers, however, Warren didn't survive. He was killed in 1900 at the Headquarters Saloon in downtown Willcox during an altercation with Johnny Boyett, a local cowhand. Boyett drew and fired, and afterwards authorities discovered that Earp was carrying only a knife. Despite that, Boyett was acquitted on the grounds that it was self-defense. Local legend says Boyett mysteriously disappeared when Wyatt and Virgil Earp showed up in town a short time later. Warren Earp's remains now lie beneath a steel marker in the Old Cemetery southeast of Willcox, a short distance from the scene of the shooting.

The Simpsons come to Universal Studios

“The Simpsons Ride” — a collaboration between Universal Parks & Resorts and “The Simpsons” creators Matt Groening, James L. Brooks and Al Jean — features 29 of the animated Springfield residents, all voiced by the original actors.

Ineffable entrepreneur Krusty the Clown (nee Herschel Krustofski), is expanding his “thrill-tacular” theme park to both coasts. Sponsored by the nuclear power plant, Krustyland will take up residence this June at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando.

In the words of the pasty-faced proprietor himself, it’ll be an “upsy downsy, spins-aroundsy, teen-operated thrill ride.”

Always with an eye towards the expedient, err the munificent, Krusty will be employing the capable residents of Springfield in manning the many attractions his parks have to offer. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon will open new Kwik-E-Mart locations in conjunction with the park. Springfield’s very own Simpson family will lead guests on the inaugural ride.

Ultimate Healthy Eating Tips for Travelers

Phoenix mom Amy Terraberry recently won the National Dairy Council’s “Ultimate Fridge Makeover Contest. ” Terraberry’s 50-word essay earned her family a new refrigerator and counsel from award-winning nutritionist, Lisa Drayer, on how to keep it stocked with smart, healthy food choices. Between rest stops and flight delays, it’s difficult to eat right on the road, so we asked Drayer for a few tips on maintaining healthy habits on the go.
  1. When ordering sandwiches, opt for whole grain bread, whole -wheat tortillas and whole grain sandwich buns in order to increase the fiber content of the meal. Also, choose lean sources of protein like chicken, turkey, tuna and low-fat cheese, which will keep you feeling full.
  2. Grab single-serve bottles of low-fat or fat-free white or flavored milk instead of  soda for a convenient and nutrient-rich beverage option .
  3. Fresh fruit, such as apples, bananas and oranges, are convenient snacks that are easy to grab at gas station mini marts and quick-service restaurants.
  4. When looking for a quick nutrient boost, grab pre-packaged, single-serve snack portions of nutrient-rich foods, such as low-fat yogurt, dried fruits and low-fat       mozzarella cheese sticks. These foods are available at most convenience stores and airport food stands.
  5. Keep trail mix, whole grain crackers and low-fat cheese cubes on hand for the car or in your carry-on bag for a nutrient-rich and satisfying snack.                         For more nutrition tips and simple recipes, visit www.3aday.org.

CineVegas
Vegas has telescoped icons from across the globe onto their glittering strip, but didn’t have to look beyond its own backyard to pilfer a little movieland charisma.

Or perhaps they wandered farther north, as Sin City’s CineVegas Film Festival might be more akin to Sundance than to Little Hollywood.  The festival annually presents work by innovative, uninhibited and renegade artists to film lovers from across the nation.

This year, CineVegas celebrates its 10th anniversary from June 12 to 21 at the Palms Casino Resort and Brenden Theatres in Las Vegas. cinevegas.com, 702-992-7979.
