GETTING AWAY

CopperWynd

by Jim Prueter

CopperWynd Resort and Club, located a short 19 miles from Old Town Scottsdale in Fountain Hills, is a magnificent retreat for those looking for a small romantic getaway.

Built into the mountainside, the luxurious boutique resort features 32 guestrooms and eight two- and three-bedroom casitas, all with private balconies and fireplaces to enjoy breathtaking views of the Sonoran Desert, mountian vistas and twinkling city lights in the distance.

The resort has been recognized on numerous “best of” lists, including Conde Nast’s Best Places to Stay in 2007, Zagat’s Top Places in the World to Stay and six consecutive years as a AAA Four Diamond Property.

For activity, CopperWynd has a spectacular tennis facility with nine lighted courts, as well as two swimming pools, hiking trails, a spa and the award-winning Alchemy restaurant. While the property doesn’t boast its own golf course, tee times are cheerfully arranged through several renowned nearby courses. One of my all-time favorites, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, is literally minutes away.

Room décor can be best described as rustic European with handmade Italian furnishings, oversized marble bathrooms and upscale custom towels, linens, draperies and bedding. Other expected amenities include bathrobes, safe, newspaper delivery, Internet access, and refrigerator.

A favorite “hush-hush” celebrity getaway, service is impeccable with always the “just right” amount of attention given without being over-bearing.

If you’re looking to impress your sweetheart or just need a pampering getaway, CopperWynd is a perfect choice.
