Rock Menagerie on Route 89
I enjoyed your short story on “skull rock” just north of Congress, Ariz. (September/October,
page 20). It reminded me of Frog Rock, just a stone’s throw north, also on
State Route 89. Local lore has it that a homesteader’s wife thought the sixty-ton
rock formation looked “froggy,” so she painted it green way back in 1928.

Your knowledge of zoomorphic monoliths is on par
with that of Sam Lowe, who wrote up said frog
in our March/April 2008 edition (page 22).
Team Transplant
I was surprised that your November/December article
on Oklahoma (page 36) did not mention that the
NBA team from Seattle has relocated to Oklahoma
City. It was a bitter deal to move the team,
the news reported.

No Tauck Talks in Tucson
The November/December edition of Highroads offers
very little for Tucson AAA members. Do you really
expect Tucson residents to drive to Phoenix to
learn more about travel opportunities? I personally
would be interested in learning more about Tauck
Tours and Cruise Expo opportunities and am disappointed
that Tucson is omitted from their schedules.

As a statewide club, AAA Arizona strives to represent
all of our regions. Informational events are a
regular occurrence throughout our locations. In
January, Rocky Mountaineer Railway will present
at our AAA Tucson East office (see details on the Office Events page). Please check our
member pages often to learn when events that interest you will be available
in your area.
