GETTING
AWAY
Grand Living Bed & Breakfast
While sleek décor, cutting edge technology and
trendy attractions have their place,
sometimes
a homespun holiday makes its own impression.
From the outside the Grand Living Bed & Breakfast
resembles an oversized log cabin with a green gabled
roof, while indoors, the guest rooms exude the
eclectic fussiness of Victorian cubbies, all tufts
and flourishes. The color scheme seems to imbue
a floral perfume through rose-colored walls and
quilted coverlets sprigged in cornflower blue,
while the bathrooms are noted for their claw foot
tubs.
Grand Living’s appeal is not hinged on modern amenities—
upgrades seemed to have stopped short at VCRs and
20” TV sets. Rather, the inn’s plaudits center
around the personal touches provided by owners
Bill and Gloria Job.
The intimate six-room stage is made even more intimate
by the Jobs’ refusal to host more than four couples
on any given night. The heart of the lodge is the
gleaming great room featuring a tongue and groove
vaulted ceiling, where the Jobs serve a hearty
gourmet breakfast of mixed fruit, quiche, biscuits,
coffee and OJ.
Thick towels, cozy bathrobes and gas fireplaces,
along with personal turndown service complete with
sweets on the pillows, keep guests snug at night.
During the day, mild pursuits — books, videos and
board games — are available on the premises. The
Jobs — who live side by side with their guests
— are on hand to offer suggestion on area activities.
The Grand Living Bed and Breakfast will seem unforgivably
low-key to some, but at the end of the day, it
offers one attraction that cannot be wired… a welcoming
home base where everybody knows your name, anonymity
be hanged.
