AAA Awards $5,000 in Scholarships to Local Students

AAA Arizona awarded a total of $5,000 to five local Hispanic students for the second consecutive year. Each scholar was awarded $1,000 through the company’s employee affinity group, Los Embajadores. Designated to help outstanding Hispanic high school graduates obtain a college degree, each one-time award will help cover the cost of tuition and books.
 
This year’s scholarship recipients are:
Steven Gonzalez, enrolled at Northern Arizona University
Isai Pacheco, enrolled at Pima Community College
Magdalena Hines, enrolled at Glendale Community College
Natalie Nevarez, enrolled at University of Arizona
Jesus Espinoza, enrolled at University of Arizona

Scholarship applications for the 2009-10 academic year are currently available online. The scholarship is open to entering freshmen students living in Arizona and attending an accredited college or university in Arizona. The deadline to submit an application is March 31, 2009. Interested students can go to AAAaz.com/scholarships to download the application.



Teen Drivers

Dare to Prepare is a free workshop for AAA members designed to help parents and pre-permit, permitted or newly licensed teen drivers navigate the learning-to-drive process. The workshop aims to increase exposure to traffic safety issues and promote parental involvement in the learning-to-drive process. Upcoming workshop dates and locations include:

Mature Drivers

CarFit, a free assessment for AAA members, offers mature drivers the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them. Technicians aim to ensure motorists have a clear line of sight, properly adjusted headrests, easy access to the gas and brake pedals, and much more.

CarFit assessments take approximately 20 minutes and are conducted at AAA branch offices.

Keeping the Keys, a free workshop for AAA members, aims to educate and inform mature drivers on the effects that age can have on driving. In addition, the workshop offers tools and resources to maintain mobility. Upcoming workshop dates and locations include:
