“Experience the ’50s in full Technicolor.” So
reads the telling tagline for Shady Dell and
its fleet of aluminum body tag-along trailers,
conjuring images of Lucille Ball in all her feverish
movie tone brilliance in 1954’s The Long, Long
Trailer.
Mother and son Justin and Annette Luria, along
with Justin’s girlfriend Jen Wilhelm, hitched
their fortunes, as well as the new slogan, to
the vintage trailer park in 2007. And by golly,
they’re delivering — one preternaturally green
Astroturf lawn and psychedelic flamingo at a
time.
A ’47 Tiki Bus, a ’47 Chris Craft Yacht and nine
themed sleeping trailers colonize the Shady Dell,
along with a recently added 1959 Boles Aero.
Meanwhile, Dot’s Diner, a ten-stool eatery, still
holds court in a ’57 Valentine over this wonderfully
synthetic mid-century wonderland.
