New Cruise Ships on the Horizon
This year, more than half a dozen
new cruise vessels will venture to
sea. Here is a quick rundown of new
ship arrivals to help you plan your
cruise calendar.
March
Carnival
Freedom (Carnival Cruise Line, 110,000
tons, 2974 passengers, Destiny class)
is the first Carnival ship to offer
a Greek Isles/Turkey itinerary. The
European portion includes 12-night
Mediterranean and Greek Isles cruises.
Carnival Freedom will then move to
Miami, where it will sail alternate
Eastern and Western seven-night Caribbean
itineraries.
Emerald
Princess(Princess Cruises, 116,000
ton, 3110 passengers) will alternate
between 12-night Mediterranean
and Greek Isle cruises. It will
move to Ft. Lauderdale in October
where it will alternate Eastern
and Southern Caribbean itineraries.
Orchestra (MSC Cruises, 90,000
tons, 2550 passengers) is a sister
ship to MSC’s Musica and
is the second new-build for MSC
to boast more than 800 staterooms
with verandahs. It will sail the
Eastern Mediterranean from Venice
during its maiden season.
May
Liberty
of the Seas (Royal Caribbean, 154,407
tons, 3634 passengers) will homeport
in Miami, offering seven-night
alternating Eastern and Western
Caribbean cruises. Liberty of the
Seas will be the second of the “Ultra
Voyager Class,” the largest
passenger ships in the world.
CostaSerena
(112,000 tons, 3004 passengers)
will sail seven-night cruises from
Venice to Eastern Mediterranean
ports of call such as Dubrovnik,
Istanbul and Katakolon.
October
Norwegian
Gem (Norwegian Cruise Line, 93,500
tons, 2376 passengers) will homeport
in New York, offering seven-, 10-
and 11-night cruises to the Bahamas
and Caribbean beginning November
3.
December
Queen
Victoria (90,000 tons, 2014 passengers)
will offer the characteristics
that have become synonymous with
Cunard’s heritage and traditions,
as well as exciting innovations such
as the first private boxes at sea
in the Royal Court Theatre, a floating
museum housing Cunard memorabilia,
and the first two-story library at
sea. |
