Bali a No Go?
In the November/December you list Bali, Indonesia as one of the Top Vacation Spots of 2005 (AAA News, pg. 15). My question is, “Why?” If I remember correctly, that place has been hit by terrorists more than once. If so, not a good spot. Beautiful? Yes! Safe? Not until all terrorists are corralled! - Robert Beasley

My latest Highroads lists Bali on a list of top cities and islands. It was recently reported that three schoolgirls were beheaded there.
Why would AAA present this country in any kind of favorable light knowing that atrocities happen there on a regular basis? Why support this country with American travel dollars? - Ron Adler

AAA responds:
Please be assured that it is not our intent to place our members in harms way. However, AAA members look to us to for the latest travel trends. In that vein, we listed the top five travel destinations as voted by the readers of Travel + Leisure, who ranked Bali as the number one island to visit. In light of the recent acts of terrorism in Bali, AAA may have elected to pull the information on this destination had time permitted. Unfortunately, the magazine was already in print at the time these incidents occurred.
