Presidents Message

Having choices is a good thing.
As I write this message, the Arizona Legislature is wrapping up a marathon session. One bill that remains on the docket has been a source of particular concern for us at AAA. The proposed legislation would substantially limit consumers’ options when buying a new car – forcing you to go to a new car auto dealership. As I’ve written before, we think this would be a raw deal.

Our position is simple: We want our members to have a choice when they’re shopping for automobiles. We think members should have the option to enlist AAA Car Buying or another car-purchasing program to assist with vehicle purchases. We also know that if the bill does not pass out of the Senate this year, it likely will be re-introduced in 2007. That means consumer choice is still at risk.

My thanks to the legislators who have spoken out against the bill. I also applaud the many members who wrote letters and made phone calls to protest it. Let’s sustain the momentum.

As I’ve said before, your opposition makes the difference. I encourage you to continue contacting your legislators and reminding them of your opposition to any legislation that would limit consumer choice in purchasing a vehicle. (Go to www.azleg.gov and click on MEMBERS to find their contact information.)

Meantime, the fact that the Arizona Legislature is adjourning also means summer is here, and with summer comes the busy season for AAA Emergency Road Service.

Did you know that Arizona has the highest rate of battery failures in the country? It’s due to the extreme summer heat and one of the main reasons our ERS call volume spikes between May and October.

AAA Battery Service is one way we’re responding. If your car battery fails, our technicians will drive to you and install a new AAA-branded battery on the spot. When quick fixes aren’t an option, we also can help you secure a Hertz rental car at a discounted rate. That way you can continue with your day, while your car gets towed in for service.

Battery Service and rental car replacement are just the beginning of our efforts to bring more services to the roadside and help keep you on the go.
Wherever you’re driving this summer, remember the heat tends to bring out the worst in people. Be patient. Take along plenty of drinking water. And if you’re shopping for cars, visit aaa car buying or call 877-943-3539 to learn if AAA Car Buying can provide value to you.
Having a choice is a good thing.
