AAA’s Four & Five Diamond Awards recognize North America’s finest accommodations and restaurants for their exceptional quality, customer service, and first-class amenities. This year’s Five Diamond Winners represent less than one half of one percent of the 53,000 properties AAA evaluated throughout North America. Four Diamond properties make up barely 3% of the total.

This year, AAA welcomes the Phoenician to the coveted list of Five Diamond properties. Mary Elaine’s at the Phoenician has been a Five Diamond restaurant for 6 years but this is a first for the Resort itself. They share this honor with Marriott’s Camelback Inn, which has been awarded Five Diamond status for 29 consecutive years, every year since the Diamond Ratings were introduced in 1977. All the Arizona establishments that have achieved this elite status share the honor with the country’s finest hotels and restaurants.
AAA first started listing accommodations information in its travel publications in the early 1900s. In 1937 AAA began inspecting hotels, motels and restaurants – rating them as good, very good, excellent or outstanding. In 1977, AAA introduced the five level Diamond Rating System, which is widely recognized as a leading benchmark of quality ratings for North American restaurants and lodgings.
