AAA Arizona Finds the State’s Best  Driving Schools

Phoenix, Ariz., January 7, 2008 – Whether you are the parent of a new teen driver, recently received a traffic citation or your resolution was to become a better driver, AAA Arizona now has three schools in its Approved Driving School Network (ADSN) to give you and your family the necessary training to stay safer on today’s roads. Initially created as a pilot program in 2004, the ADSN serves the need for guidance when choosing a driving school.

“When it comes to driving schools, many people do not know what to look for and as a result, may  wind up unhappy with the instruction they receive,” said Linda Gorman, public affairs manager for AAA Arizona. “With the Approved Driving School Network,  we have done the homework for you. Every school that applies must pass a stringent list of requirements to get the AAA seal of approval.”

Last year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the death toll on Arizona’s roadways increased by nine percent between 2005 and 2006 - from 1,179 to 1,288. With numbers like these, it is imperative that drivers seek the best schools for their driver training.

Driving MBA, Desert Driving School and Arizona Traffic Schools are the three schools currently in the ADSN network. Their specialties include:

Driving MBA

  • Courses for pre-permit, permit and newly licensed drivers.
  • State-of-the-art simulation program.
  • Basic driving fundamentals and defensive driving techniques.
  • Assessments based on reaction times, visual acuity and physical abilities.
  • Skills assessment course for mature operators (seniors)

Desert Driving School

  • Courses for novice drivers  seeking an Arizona permit or driver's license.
  • Recognizing traffic signals and signs.
  • Behind-the-wheel instruction on city and highway roads.
  • Parallel parking instructions.

Arizona Traffic Schools

  • Point-reduction classes.
  • Defensive driving (ticket dismissal) and court-ordered Traffic Survival School (TSS) courses.
  • Refresher classes for mature operators (seniors).
  • Training for fleet operations.

All schools in AAA Arizona’s Approved Driving School Network must adhere to the following standards:

  • Offer reduced rates to AAA members.
  • Agree to binding arbitration if there is a dispute with an AAA member.
  • Provide novice driver and/or driver improvement programs using either AAA curriculum or curriculum approved by AAA driver training staff.
  • Be in good standing with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General’s office.
  • Hold liability insurance.
  • Employ instructors that are certified by the Arizona Motor Vehicle Department.
  • Maintain a 90 percent customer approval rating.
  • Agree to an annual inspection of the school, equipment and vehicles.

AAA Arizona continues to seek and evaluate additional schools that may be interested in becoming a part of the network. To find contact information or learn more about the schools in the ADSN, visit AAA Arizona’s Driver Training page.
