Pleasant Holidays!

The allure of Hawaii is intoxicating. Our youngest state is home to one of the world’s most active volcanoes, birthplace of surfing and the hula, and the former seat of a royal kingdom. But Hawaii’s most unique feature is its Aloha Spirit: the warmth of the people of Hawaii. Visit for the first time or return again, Hawaii welcomes you.

Kauai  - The Garden Isle

Kauai is the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands and is the fourth largest of the group with volcanic mountains reaching 5,243 feet. It's also one of the wettest places on the earth with an average of 460 inches per year. High-pressure zones in the north Pacific pump cool, moist trade winds down onto the islands's northeastern mountain, giving the Princeville area a daily downpour. The opposite southwest side of the island known as the Poipu Beach area is sunny year around and the place to stay.

The high annual rainfall has eroded deep valleys, carving out canyons with scenic waterfalls and the only true river on the islands, Waimea River. Wiamea Canyon, 3,000 feet deep is often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.  Aptly referred to as The Garden Isle, the tropical moisture has been the incubator for the lush array of flora.  It's no surprise that films like Jurrasic Park were shot in Kauai, and that when people conjure up Hawaii in their minds, it's Kauai that they see.

Have a Whale of a Good Time in Hawaii

Humpback whales make their yearly migration to warmer Hawaiian waters every winter and they're a thrill to watch.  Although whale watching in Hawaii is touted on all the islands, the protected Auau Channel and shallow warm waters off the west coast of Maui are the best whale-watching locations.

McGregor Point overlooking Maalaea Bay offers excellent vantage points for spotting humpback whales.  From November to April, whales can be spotted breaching, fluking and head slapping.  Early morning and late evenings are the best times to catch the action.   And if you're lucky, you'll spot a calf, too.

The calving season starts in late January and they often come close to shore - the best time to plan a trip.

The Maui Whale Festival in February is the brainchild of the nonprofit Pacific Whale Foundation (PWF), which is dedicated to the protection of the mammoth mammals.  Throughout the month, you can go on whale-watching trips with top scientists and environmentalists, visit a West Maui Humpback whale lookout station staffed daily by PWF naturalists, and bring kids to whale-oriented storytelling sessions in Maalaea.  There's the Run for the Whales along the coast of South Maui, and don't miss the annual Parade of Whales on South Kihei Road!
