September 20, 2009 - MAUI MARATHON, MAUI HALF MARATHON
The Maui Marathon is a point to point course from Kahului to Kaanapali and is recognized as one of the most scenic marathons in North America with most of the course running within 50 feet of the Pacific Ocean. The Maui Half Marathon is out and back from Whalers Village in Kaanapali. Walkers are welcome in all events.

October 1-4, 2009 - 87TH ANNUAL MAUI COUNTY FAIR
At the Wailuku War Memorial Complex you’ll find the oldest and best fair in Hawaii with lots of rides, games, exhibits and entertainment on the Big Stage day and night. There’s a huge food court with island specialties, the Maui County Fair Parade, talent contest, Chili Cook-off and more fun. Tickets: $5 adults; $2 children 5 to 11 at the gate (4 years and younger free)

October 1 – 4, 2009 - MAUI ORCHID SOCIETY SHOW
The orchid show features many varieties on display and for sale along with lectures and demonstrations of general orchid culture. It’s held at Maui County Fairgrounds, War Memorial at 211 Kanaloa Ave in Kahului

November 14, 2009 - VALLEY ISLE ROAD RUNNERS' HARBOR TO HARBOR 15K RUN
The race is a 9.3 miles long and will start at the old Kahului Store and will end at the Maalaea Harbor Village Shopping Center. There will be an awards ceremony after the race at the Seascape Restaurant.

 

Kauai Special Events

September 13, 2009 - KAUAI ALL GIRLS RODEO  10 a.m.
Kauai's finest cowgirls compete on horseback in fast paced rodeo events. Contestants range in age from grade-schoolers to grandmothers. Free admission, open-air bleacher seating, lunch wagon, logo t-shirt sales. Rodeo is held at CJM Country Stables, about a mile past the Hyatt on Poipu Road.

September 20 – 26, 2009 - KAUAI MOKIHANA FESTIVAL - 25th Anniversary
A contemporary Hawaiian cultural festival that offers a full week of events each September, including Hawaiian music contests and performances, cultural workshops, and three days of hula competition.  2009 is the "Year of Hawaiian Music" and events such as the Kauai Composers Contest and Concert (9/21/09) and the Hawaiian Instrumental Competition(9/20/09) promote that theme. The mini-film festival (9/23/09) will feature Hawaiian composers. The week concludes with three day hula competition, featuring both solo and group performers of Kahiko Nei (traditional contemporary)and Auana (modern). Hula dancers and halau from near and far compete in many categories for cash prizes and recognition. Most events have a $20 ticket price at the door, or $15 in advance (call 808-246-5515). Some events are free.

October 10, 2009 - OCTOBER GARDEN ISLE ARTISAN FAIR
9 am to 3 pm, Poipu Beach. Over 40 local artisans showcase an array of handcrafted products from Kauai and Polynesia. You’ll find Hawaiian music all day, plate lunches and Hawaiian shave ice. Free & open to the public

 

December 19, 2009 - WAIMEA LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE; 6 p.m.
The first Hawaiian Christmas was celebrated here and Waimea Town goes all out to celebrate with street front lighting and the annual parade.  Refreshments and entertainment follow the parade. Then, enjoy the town after dark.

 

February 19, 2010 - WAIMEA TOWN CELEBRATION 
Two days of continuous entertainment, food-craft-game booths, lots of sporting events and more at the 32nd Waimea Town Celebration at Waimea, Kauai.
